1991 - I Love the 90's; Music, Television & Movies to Remember

Updated on May 28, 2022

So long ago but feels like yesterday

It hardly feels like 1991 was more than twenty years ago. I was a little kid in the 80’s and became a teenager in the 90’s. I wouldn’t be who I am had I grown up in different eras. 1991 brought us the beginning and end of Operation Desert Storm, Jeffrey Dahmer became a recognizable household name and Rodney King’s video made its way to the public. I prefer to remember the 90’s for the simpler things, the positive things... the things that make me miss that time and enjoy reliving through memories... the things that make me say; where has the time gone? . Having a hard time letting go of this era, I find myself reminiscing as often as I can. Here is my recap of 1991.

Music

Baby Baby – Amy Grant

Black or White - Michael Jackson

Enter Sandman – Metallica

(Everything I Do) I Do It For You – Bryan Adams

I Touch Myself – Divinyls

There is something a little awkward about being a 9 year old girl with one of her favorite songs on the radio having lyrics "...when I think about you I touch myself..." but you just can't deny AWESOME!

I Wanna Sex You Up - Color Me Badd

I couldn't decide between the two Color Me Badd videos because they both played for weeks of my childhood in 1991. Two totally different songs and if "I Wanna Sex You Up" doesn't do it for you, I really urge you to watch "All 4 Love". You may not even remember the song until you hear it, but the hairstyles, outfits and dancing scream the 90's.

All 4 Love - Color Me Badd

Let's Talk About Sex – Salt-N-Pepa

Losing My Religion – R.E.M.

Motownphilly – Boyz II Men

Mysterious Ways – U2

More Than Words - Extreme

This song was perfect for a school bus full of 5th grade girls to memorize and sing at the top of their lungs. I still sing along today (as long as there's no witnesses).

O.P.P. - Naughty By Nature

Thanks to Naughty By Nature, I found out what "Bass" was. This thumped a lot of cars back in the day.

Smells Like Teen Spirit – Nirvana

Under The Bridge – Red Hot Chili Peppers

When A Man Loves A Woman – Michael Bolton

From Nirvana at school dances to Michael Bolton on your parents' radio at home... couldn't be a bigger stretch but I loved them both!

Right Here, Right Now – Jesus Jones

I don't know who Jesus Jones is or where he went but boy did I use to love this song. Right there, right now is where I want to be.

Right Now - Van Halen

I haven't seen this video in so long but it actually seems more relevant today than it did to me in 1991.

Unbelievable - EMF

I think this song ended up being spun into a Kraft cheese commerical, for "Crumbelievable".
